December 31, 2018

Oman Oil Marketing Co (OOMC) on Sunday announced that its first mega service station in the sultanate is set to open at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in 2019.

In line with its strategy to diversify revenue streams, OOMC signed a 20-year investment agreement with SQU to develop a fully integrated service hub on its campus, providing access to various offerings including shopping, food products and services, a press release said.

Catering to SQU students and staff in addition to Al Khoudh 6th residents, the 10,000sqm project will comprise a fuel service station, coffee shops, a car care centre, convenience store, shopping complex with global brands, separate gyms for men and women, a children’s play area, a pharmacy, a nursery, ATMs and a business centre for students. Restaurant services will be provided by specialised Thai coffee house, Café Amazon.

David Kalife, chief executive officer of Oman Oil Marketing Co said, “Earlier this year, we announced our roadmap for the future, reaffirming our commitment to go ‘beyond the pump’ in our mission to become one of the top five fuel marketers in the GCC by 2025. Achieving our goal is centred on building a brand that provides an unparalleled chain of service hubs.”

He further said, “This new mega station is our first step in transforming the fuel supply industry by offering the one-stop-shop experience needed in today’s fast-moving world.

We are looking to create destinations of convenience and leisure for motorists, whereby going to a fuel station is no longer thought of as a routine repetitive experience but rather a delightful one.”

OOMC is also planning two more mega stations, one in Nizwa and is expected to open during the second half of 2019 while the second will be in Al Mabela and will open in 2020.

The SQU mega station will be completed in two phases. Phase one comprising the service station and car care centre ‘Optimo Swift’ is set to open in the second half of 2019. Phase two, which is set to open in 2020, will comprise all the other services in the complex.
