Omani rial’s exchange rate index rises 2% in 2016

Omani rial’s effective exchange rate index rose by two per cent to 107.3 as of the end of 2016, indicating the currency’s enhanced purchasing power. 

The index stood at 105.2 as of December 2015, according to an Oman News Agency report.

Total currency issued last year in the sultanate as of December 2016 stood at RO 1.65bn against RO1.79bn issued in 2015, marking a decline of 7.9 per cent, according to a recent bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
