Western Union, in association with Global Money Exchange, has launched online money transfers in Oman via the Western Union mobile app and Westernunion.com website, enabling customers to send money to almost anywhere in the world, any time.

Western Union is fast-tracking its digital footprint across the world and has online services in 45 countries and territories.

“Building on our iconic retail footprint locally and globally in more than 200 countries and territories, we have raised the bar of convenience for our customers by offering the choice of digital money transfer. Our vision is to serve our customers based on their need or choice of channel. For our customers in Oman – they can choose online or offline at Western Union, and making this happen for them is exciting,” Hatem Sleiman, regional vice president - Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan at Western Union, said while speaking at a press conference on Wednesday.

“It is impressive to see the vision of Oman, through the eOman initiative, creating the framework for Oman’s digital transformation to deliver customer centric digital services. In collaboration with Global Money Exchange, we are very pleased to be aligned with this vision, offering customers in Oman the access to our services right at their fingertips,” Sleiman added.

To commemorate the launch, Western Union announced a transfer fee of RO1.5 per transaction for sending up to RO2,000 online or on the app.

Customers can pay their transactions online through bank transfers from bank accounts in Oman, while their receivers can pick-up cash at more than half a million Western Union’s agent locations around the world.

“We are happy to collaborate with Western Union to launch the digital money transfer services in Oman. This service is going to add value to both the local and expat population. Collaborating with Western Union allows us to play a significant role in moving money across the world via digital channels,” K S Subromoniyan, managing director of Global Money Exchange said.

“This service will benefit customers all around the country, but particularly those in remote areas. We are very pleased to offer our customers convenience and also the choice of sending money from anywhere with a few clicks on their computer or mobile or by coming in-person and sending from a location,” R Madhusoodanan, general manager of Global Money Exchange said.

In line with the Central Bank of Oman’s regulations, prior to the first use of the online service and the app, customers are required to register on www.westernunion.com/om, then verify in-person with their national ID at one of the 46 Global Money Exchange locations. After verification, customers will receive a notification confirming account activation. Once the account is active customers can conveniently send Western Union money transfers anytime, with a few clicks, from their mobile phone or online.

In addition to the convenience and reliability of sending money any time, the website and app (available for iOS and Android users) enables customers to estimate fees and foreign exchange rates for online money transfers, track money transfers online, access record of completed transactions or find many of Western Union’s global agent locations where the money can be collected.
