I admit it. I have been increasingly guilty of texting away while apparently being part of a ‘conversation’ with my children. I have often taken a call while my daughter is describing her emotional day at school and then expected her to just carry on where she left off.

It's that time of year again. That time when I seem to be falling apart under the stress of never-ending shopping trips and ever expanding to-do lists. That time when I lie awake at night, staring down those final few weeks of preparation, trying to beat back the dread of the chaotic days ahead.

Summer Trip

We still had two weeks to go for our summer trip but my over enthusiastic kids decided to get started with their packing. Sharing suitcases had proven to be a disaster the previous year and so I eagerly agreed when they suggested everyone carry their own carry-on. Little did I realise then that such over-enthusiasm would be the start of a major ankle onslaught.

Goodbye dear grandmother

I lost my grandmother yesterday. She had turned a hundred this year. And although she had lost her eyesight and her hearing, her mind didn’t cease to amaze me. When I last met her, she held my arm and recounted for me incidents past and present, many of which had faded from my own memory, and hugged and kissed me as only a grandmother can.
