The much awaited Condé Nast International (CNI) Luxury Conference begins in Muscat today at the Shangri-La Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa. In its third edition, the conference themed ‘Mindful Luxury: Navigating the New Silk Routes’ is the first luxury conference to be held in the Middle East.
The CNI Luxury Conference, this year will explore how the very concept of “luxury” is changing in the fast evolving world.
Suzy Menkes, International Vogue Editor, who conceptualised the luxury conference in Paris in 2000, points out that the conference highlights different segments of the luxury industry and not just fashion. She also underlines the growing importance of immaterial luxury- where “experience as luxury” is gaining popularity.
The very word “luxury” is evolving as consumers become more discerning and this is one of the key focal points of the conference. Industry experts will discuss how to maintain the relevance of brands by redefining luxury for the modern consumer.
Spread over two days, the conference touches upon different topics such as ‘the new silk route’ and a changing world order, the impact of technology, identifying new luxury profit centres and the importance of strategising and planning in an uncertain world.
While it places Oman on the map as a destination to be associated with mindful luxury, the conference also highlights local talents such as Omani designer Amal al Raisi, founder and creative director of Amal Al Raisi. David Crickmore, CEO of Amouage will speak about building an international brand and fragrance - which is a key engine of the luxury industry. Other regional industry experts include Lebanese designer Elie Saab, Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, editor in chief of Vogue Arabia and Huda Kattan, founder and CEO of Huda Beauty.
This year the conference also looks at the fast-growing allure and power of accessories. The speakers include Pierre Denis, CEO of Jimmy Choo, Tarang Arora, CEO and creative director of Amrapali, Caterina Occhio, founder and CEO of SeeMe among others.
Online portals have practically diminished borders and made global brands more accessible. Discussing further on this will be guest speakers, Yasmin Sewell, fashion director of Style.com, Morin Oluwole the head of luxury at Facebook/Instagram and José Neves the founder and CEO of Farfetch.
