Birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev marked
The Indian Embassy in Muscat and Punjabi Wing of Indian Social Club, in association with the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Oman last week organised a special screening of film Uchha Dar Babe Nanak da, at the embassy auditorium.
The event was the third and final screening of films as part of the celebrations to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev.
Shri Guru Nanak Dev was the founder of Sikhism,and the first of the ten Sikh gurus. Shri P K Prakash, counsellor (Culture), Embassy of India, welcomed the guests and thanked them for regularly participating in film screenings at the embassy auditorium. The event was attended by more than 150 people including officers and families from the Embassy of India members of the Punjabi Wing of Indian Social Club as well as Sikh community in Oman. Karanjeet Singh Matharoo, convenor of Punjabi Wing conveyed the importance of auspicious occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev.
He informed the audience that quiz and essay writing competitions will be held for school students in August and November in the embassy auditorium apart from painting exhibition and cultural events which are planned for the coming months.
Paramjeet Singh, co-convenor of the ISC Punjabi Wing, delivered the vote of thanks.
