Dar al Atta’a invites entries to 11th Annual Children’s Writing Competition

The Let’s Read Committee of Dar al Atta’a on Monday announced the 11th Annual Children’s Writing Competition. Students between the ages of nine and 18 years have been invited to submit essays on the topic  ‘Stories of Our Ancestors’.

Applicants have to research and write a story about one of their ancestors (e.g. grandparent, great-grandparent, great uncle or great aunt etc.). They must interview family members to find out details and look through old documents and photos. They must include their ancestor’s birth, education and career details in the essay along with adventures and difficulties ancestors faced during his or her lifetime.

The applicants can also submit a photograph if possible. Entries can be written in either English or Arabic and must not exceed 500 words.

Entries should include:

Name, age, phone number and e-mail address of the entrant

Name, telephone number and e-mail address of the school

The entries will be judged on the basis of detailed research, character description and dramatised storyline. Winners will be presented with great prizes and may see their work in print.
