Distance please! Pharmacies follow strict health, hygiene protocol
Pharmacies are maintaining strict health and hygiene protocol as per the Ministry of Health (MoH) guidelines to contain Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In an advisory issued to all pharmacies on March 21, Dr Mohammed Hamdan al Rubaie, director general, Directorate General of Pharmaceutical Affairs and Drug Control, Ministry of Health, said, “In line with different government measures to contain COVID-19 pandemic and as we noticed that there is some overcrowding in pharmacies, it has been decided that private pharmacies should only dispense through the duty windows on the main door. “Private pharmacies in the shopping malls should ensure that the staff maintain safe distance from customers. These instructions need to be followed until further notice. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation to ensure the safety of all concerned.”
Another pharmacy in the city had another advisory from the Directorate General of Pharmaceutical Affairs and Drug Control pasted at its entrance stating, ‘In view of the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic and as a precautionary measure, more than three customers are not allowed at a time in the pharmacy. This is for your safety and the safety of pharmacy staff. Please adhere to this instruction and wait outside the pharmacy until your turn.’
Muscat Daily visited a leading pharmacy in the city and found a notice pasted on the counter stating, ‘All customers must maintain 1m distance.’
Pharmacists too were wearing masks and dispensed medicines wearing hand gloves.
