Evaluation of projects for excellence in eGovernment award to begin next week
The jury session for the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment 2018, organised by the Information Technology Authority, will be held from October 21-25 at Kempinski Hotel Muscat.
Over the five days and according to the set criteria, the jury will evaluate 64 submitted projects: 47 projects from government entities, nine projects from private organisations and eight from SMEs, stated a press release.
The jury includes 13 members with three Omanis.
The jury is the final phase of the selection process of the winning projects and it works independently and impartially abiding by the award’s rules and guidelines, hence, the decisions of the jury are final and not subject to change.
Additionally, the jury will provide detailed reports consisting of recommendations and ways for improvements for the participating projects to enhance e-services in the sultanate.
In this edition, the award comprises ten categories, three of which have been newly added, distributed for government, private and SMEs sectors. The two new categories for government entities are Best Open Data Initiative and Best Government Application for Smart Devices.
The third new category is specified for the private sector for the Best Private Application for Smart Devices.
Government sector entities can compete in seven categories, namely, Best Open Data Initiative, Best Government Application for Smart Devices, Best Government eService – individuals, Best Government Project, Best eService Supporting Business, Best Practice in Community eParticipation and Best eTransformation Achievement.
The private sector’s large organisations can compete in two categories, namely, Best Private Application for Smart Devices and Best Private Sector eService. The Private sector ICT Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can participate, in Best SME eService.
The award comes as a result of His Majesty the Sultan’s emphasis on the use of ICT in his speech at the annual meeting of the Council of Oman in 2008.
