Ex-ISWK student pockets badminton gold in India

A former student of Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) has bagged two gold medals at a prestigious badminton competition in India.

Janani Anantha Kumar studied at ISWK till grade VI before going back to the motherland, primarily to improve the game. Right now, she is in grade XII, studying in Bengaluru. She won gold medals in the U17 singles and girls doubles at the All India Sub Junior Badminton Ranking Tournament held in Imphal and Guwahati respectively.

Her father Anantha Kumar said, “We are very happy with her achievement. She was studying in Oman and left for India almost five years back. Her coaches in Oman suggested that she had incredible talent and needed to go beyond Oman for more training and exposure.”

He added that Janani used to play badminton since grade IV.

“We are optimistic about her future and we will be happy if the Oman Badminton Committee takes notice of her major achievement. She is open to play for Oman.”

In the doubles, Janani was partnered by Tanya Hemanth.
