MECA stops relocation of Ghaf trees from Qurm

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) has issued a statement on the relocation of Ghaf trees in Qurm currently in the spotlight (Muscat Daily, January 8 and January 9).  

The statement said, “The ministry appreciates the interest of citizens and their keenness to keep the two Ghaf trees in their existing location. The Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs has stopped the transfer of these trees.” The Minister confirmed that MECA is keen on the protection of old Omani wild trees.

The Minister also stressed that the ministry will initiate a registration programme of old trees to protect these, the first phase of which will be conducted in Muscat.
