MoAF’s aquaculture project registrations to open from August 7
Registration of applications for land and sea commercial aquaculture projects will start early August for Omani companies keen on establishing such projects.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has allocated several plots for commercial aquaculture projects in the governorates of Muscat, South Sharqiyah and Al Wusta.
Registration will be open from August 7 to September 7.
Aquaculture farming locations include Ras Madrakah, Al Sa’adanat, Hitam al Barr in the wilayat of Duqm; Al Ruwais, Al Suweih and Al Sarj in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali and Al Jiri.
The offshore locations include Dhabab in the wilayat of Quriyat in the Governorate of Muscat. The area of the locations ranges from four and a half hectares to 452ha.
The fisheries sector contributes to economy of the sultanate in a big way not just through local sales but also exports.
Fish farming projects attract attention of many investors, particularly young people.
Aquaculture activities in the sultanate have intensified in the recent past considering its immense potential.
The number of tilapia farming projects recently reached 12 integrated projects in different governorates.
The production of tilapia rose from five tonnes in 2014 to 20 tonnes in 2015.
