MoH gears up for National Measles Immunisation Campaign phase 2
The Ministry of Health (MoH) held a meeting at Grand Millennium Hotel on Wednesday to discuss the preparations for the second phase of the National Measles Immunisation Campaign (NMIC) for those in the age group of 20–35 years.
The meeting was chaired by H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health.
The Ministry of Health, represented by the Directorate General for Diseases Surveillance and Control (DGDSC), implements the national campaign, which includes the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
The second phase will be carried out from September 10 to 16.
The MoH’s undersecretaries and health affairs advisor, along with a number of senior officials from the ministry, Directorates General of Health Services in the governorates, regional hospitals, as well as representatives from civil and military health institutions attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the challenges, and the achievements that were made during the first phase of the campaign, which included the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta.
A training workshop was held before the meeting for health workers from the public and private sectors, as well as military health institutions in order to recognise the mechanism of planning and readiness for implementing the campaign.
The ministry has called all citizens and residents aged between 20–35 (born between 1997–1982) to head to the health institutions and vaccination centres to take the free-of-cost vaccine to protect themselves from diseases.
