NCSI to hold khareef visitor survey from June 21-September 21
The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and ROP, will conduct the Khareef Salalah 2017 Visitor Survey from June 21 to September 21.
The survey aims at providing indicators on the number of visitors contributing in the development of the tourism sector. The project provides data on visitors in terms of nationality, transportation means used as well as the economic effect of khareef season on Dhofar.
As per the outcome of 2016, the number of visitors stood at 653,000 (an average of 7,000 per day), the highest number since the survey began in 2004.
The survey pointed out that the number of Omani visitors to Dhofar stood at 460,345, a 21.8 rise compared to 378,068 during the same period in 2015. Visitors from the Gulf constituted 17.5 per cent of the total number in 2016.
Emirati tourists in the 2016 khareef season stood at 60,370 compared to 31,581 from Saudi Arabia, 7,915 from Qatar, 7,315 from Kuwait and 6,926 from Bahrain. The number of visitors from other Arab countries stood at 17,333 compared to 55,904 from Asian countries mostly Indians at 34,484.
