New project showcases Dhofar’s beauty
Twenty Omani photographers have come together to showcase the beauty of Dhofar. The aim is to make people aware that the governorate is ready for visitors after Cyclone Mekunu caused extensive damage in May.
Called ‘Dhofar Khareef by Omani Cameras’, the initiative is led by Haitham al Shanfari.
Speaking to Muscat Daily , Shanfari said, “We thought about this idea after Cyclone Mekunu hit Dhofar. Many sites were damaged but the government and the community joined hands for restoration work.”
He said the 20 photographers travelled across Dhofar from July 3 to 8 to click photographs and make videos of tourist sites. “We divided the team into several groups and visited more than 20 tourist sites. The photos and videos were circulated on social media channels like WhatsApp and Facebook to promote tourism in Dhofar. We hope this helps to attract more tourists from inside and outside Oman.”
Shanfari said that government and private institutions have supported the initiative such as the Ministry of Tourism, Omran, Omantel, SalamAir, Shell, Bait al Zubair and Crowne Plaza. “We are planning to host an exhibition to showcase the photographs.
“Our initiative will not stop in Dhofar. We hope to have similar initiatives for other places in Oman,” he added.
