SQU, PEIE to collaborate for research and innovation
Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) have agreed on further enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest including research, innovation and entrepreneurship, training and organisation of events.
A letter of understanding in this regard has been signed today by Dr Rahma Ibrahim al Mahrooqi, deputy vice-chancellor for Postgraduate Studies & Research, Sultan Qaboos University, and Hilal al Hasani, CEO of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates.
The letter of understanding envisages furtherance of the mutual interest of the two organisations in the fields of education, training, research and consultancy and a contribution to increased institutional cooperation. Both SQU and PEIE agreed to explore opportunities to collaborate in the areas of mutual interest including research, innovation and entrepreneurship, training and organisation of events.
PEIE seeks to support the industrial projects in Oman by linking them to various research centres to enrich knowledge in the industrial sector and to maximise the benefits of cooperation with research institutions including universities, laboratories and scientific centres. The National Business Centre established by PEIE in Knowledge Oasis Muscat is a national initiative that offers promising Omani entrepreneurs a platform to develop their business ideas and to advance them into growing ventures. The centre attempts to become the premier platform for Omani entrepreneurs by providing business development support and guidance, training and mentoring, access to markets and industry experts and state-of-the-art and fully equipped office spaces. Hence, the decision to further enhance cooperation between SQU, which is the premier higher education and research institution, is expected to boost research, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship in the sultanate.
