Tampering traditional Omani attire illegal: MoCI

May 13, 2019

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has warned clothing and tailoring shop owners against tampering traditional Omani dresses and accessories.

Cutting, sewing, or printing slogans and logos of foreign clubs or making drawings contrary to public interest on Omani clothing is not allowed. The ministry has said it is also not permissible to change the traditional design of mussar in any form.

The Department of Commercial Affairs at MoCI said that Omani traditional dresses were important symbols of Omani heritage. In its previous announcement, the ministry had already warned commercial institutions and companies against tampering Omani traditional clothing.

MoCI said that it is continuing its inspection drive in clothing and tailoring shops and has also deployed a team of inspectors for the purpose.
