Transit passenger from Muscat held in India for smuggling 871g gold

Customs officials in the Indian capital city of New Delhi seized 871g of gold that entered the country via Muscat. This was announced by the customs department at the Delhi airport recently. The gold was seized from an Indian passenger travelling from Riyadh to Delhi via Muscat, who had hidden it in an emergency lamp.

“Delhi Customs at the Indira Gandhi International Airport seized 871g of gold valued R2.81mn (approx RO15,000) from an Indian passenger coming from Riyadh via Muscat on 27.1.19. Gold was concealed in an emergency light which was being carried by the pax. The pax has been arrested,” said the tweet.
