Muscat-based racer Shonal Kunimal treated his home fans with another amazing display of his skills and speed as he claimed victories in the fifth and sixth round of Bambino class at the 2018-19 UAE Rotax Max Challenge Series at the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) Muscat Speedway recently.

The seven year old Shonal, who is a class II student of the Indian School Ghubra-International, has been on a roll, winning races after races since the start of this season.

Having claimed the top honours at the prestigious Dubai O-Plate Championships last month, his ninth victory in ten races across different series, Shonal was, once again, at his best, as he added two more race wins to make it a delightful dozen from a total of 13 races across IAME X30, Dubai Bambino Cup, Rotax Max Challenge and Dubai O-Plate events.

Competing in the Bambino category (5-8 years old), Shonal's latest win in the Rotax series is his fifth out of the six rounds, missing only the opening race win.

At the Muscat Speedway last Friday, Shonal competed in four time-trials daily over two days. He began his fifth round with the day's fastest time-lap 1:13.543sec.  Young Omani racer Adam Awan was second in round five and Leonidas Peruzzi of Greece was third.

Shonal's dominance continued the next day too as he finished ahead of Adam and Zak Sowerby of UK.

In his remarks after the back-to-back wins, Shonal thanked Sulaiman al Rawahi, the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) managing director, for his constant encouragement and his coach, Sanad al Rawahi, for the guidance and crucial tips.
