Bareh International Regatta 2019: Hinai claims gold in Bahrain
A dominant show by Abdul Malik al Hinai saw the young Omani sailor claim wins in ten of the 12 races to claim a deserving gold in the Laser 4.7 class at the 24th Al Bareh International Regatta 2019, which concluded in Bahrain on Monday.
It was one-two finish for Oman in the Laser 4.7 class as Hinai's Oman Sail teammate, Ali al Saadi, who picked wins in the other two races, claimed the silver. The regatta, organised by the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association, featured sailors from the region, Egypt, Algeria and Pakistan.
Al Moatasem al Farsi missed the podium to finish fourth Oman’s Albaraa al Nofli coming in sixth.
“All of our Laser 4.7 sailors showed great skill and determination to return with good results,” said Mohsin al Busaidi, Oman Sail’s Youth Sailing Manager. He added, “Abdul Malik was outstanding and the whole team is proud of what they have been able to achieve.”
Meanwhile, Oman Sail Optimist sailors will now begin a three-week training camp in Musannah to prepare for one of the highlights of the year, the Oman Sailing Championships, which will be held from August 1-7. The championships will feature races in Optimist, Laser, Windsurfing and 29er classes.
