Blancpain Endurance Cup GT Series: Round Two: Ahmad ready for ‘home’ race at Silverstone
Oman's Ahmad al Harthy has achieved quite a few successes at the famed Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, UK in the past. The 36 year old campaigner will hope to draw lot of confidence from his past achievements when he along with his Oman Racing with TF Sport teammates, Euan Mckay and Charlie Eastwood, battle out in the Silver Cup class in the second round of the Blancpain GT Series on May 19-20.
With TF Sport based in UK, the Oman Racing trio is expected to attract local support with their Aston Martin V12 Vantage in a 52-car field for a three-hour race.
A total of 12 different manufacturers will be represented across four competitive classes, in what will be the eighth successive season that the series has raced at the 5.891-km circuit.
After an encouraging display in the Endurance Cup series opener at Monza in Italy last month, where Oman Racing finished fifth among nine cars in Silver Cup, the trio hopes to build on the positive start to the season after picking up ten points from the opener.
Ahmad has enjoyed considerable success in Silverstone during his formative racing years in Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Formula Renault single-seaters. Having spent a lot of track time at the circuit, Ahmad feels that he is “at home” in Silverstone.
Ahead of the second round, Ahmad said, “We’re all really looking forward to Silverstone; it’s an amazing track and a venue where Oman Racing has a lot of good memories. It’s always nice to be racing in the UK.”
“Silverstone is always a big home event for us, we have a huge amount of support and it’s also the home race for TF Sport [the squad behind Oman Racing], plus Euan and Charlie, so it’ll be a big weekend for all of us.
“I was happy with the performance at Monza, a fifth place on our Silver Cup debut. It was a strong result and there were a lot of positives to take from there. The team is, as ever, doing a fantastic job and the three of us are working very well together. Silver Cup is incredibly competitive, but we’re positive of a strong display at Silverstone.”
