Enhance pulls out of Oman Cricket’s Premier Division

August 06, 2019

Enhance CT, one of the leading teams on the domestic circuit, has decided to pull out of the forthcoming 2019-20 Oman Cricket (OC) season. The new season is expected to begin next month though the OC is yet to release the schedule.

However, the OC did confirm the withdrawal of Enhance teams from the forthcoming season.

While Enhance CT competed in the top-flight Premier Division, its other team, Enhance Eagles, took part in the A Division. Both the teams also had players who represented various national teams.

Among the leading names who were part of the past and current Enhance teams include former Oman vice-captain Khawar Ali, Khurram Khan, Mehran Khan, Noorul Riaz, Ikhtiar Kazmi, Munis Ansari, Nestor Dhamba Wasim Ali, Sufyan Mehmood, Ubaidullah and Ahmed Fayyaz Butt. The last-named was also part of U19 Pakistan World Cup team in New Zealand in 2010.

Also for a few seasons, Enhance Royals featured as the third team in lower divisions while a fourth team from its stables - Fairtrade - also competed two seasons ago.

Enhance CT had been a regular on the domestic circuit for the 25 years and began as Matrah Cold Stores (MCS)-OUA.

It joined the top-flight division in 2010-11 season while Eagles was a dominant team in the A Division, having won the title on number of occasions and is the defending champion.

A source in the team said it was a 'management decision' and most of the leading players have been absorbed by other teams.

Another reason, he said  could be the exit of the team’s long-serving team’s manager and mentor, Guru Prasanna. Prasanna was a key member of the team prior to taking up his managerial role and left the sultanate after serving the team for more than two decades.

Six teams this seasonFollowing Enhance's pull-out, OC announced the new season will feature a total of six teams in the Premier Division. The new teams are IT Works and Renaissance CT.

Both IT Works and Renaissance CT earned a berth after their good show in A Division and will join Assarain CT, Muscat CT, Passage to India and Al Turki NMC in the top league.

Meanwhile, OC said that online registration for senior divisions closes on August 18 while teams keen to enter the  U19, U16, U13 and women’s leagues can register between August 5-28.
