Exciting matches at Oman International Youth Cup

The inaugural edition of the Oman International Youth Cup football tournament witnessed exciting games in all the four age-group categories on the second day at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) on Friday. The tournament, which is being played in U9, U11, U13 and U15 categories, is being backed by the Ministry of Sports Affairs and Oman Football Association (OFA) and is being organised under the Tanfeedh sports tourism initiative.

The tournament features six teams from well-known football academies of Europe – Arsenal, Manchester City, Inter Milan, Torino, Genoa and Hellas Verona. Besides these six European teams, four regional teams – Evolution Sports Qatar, Sports Academy Kuwait, Barcelona Dubai and Spanish Soccer School - is competing with eight teams from Oman.

Al Seeb impressed in the U15 category as it topped its group with five wins and one loss. ESG finished second, Spanish Soccer Academy in third and Muscat Football Academy (MFA) came in fourth.

In the U9 group, Evolution Sports Qatar will take on Barcelona Dubai for the title while ESG will meet MFA in a bronze medal playoff.

Torino stayed unbeaten in U11 category while Manchester City was second in the group with Barcelona Dubai in third.

The U13 category had three groups and Arsenal beat Genoa to win the first group.

Hellas Verona topped Group B while Omani team ESG upset Inter Milan 2-1 to finish second. Torino won the third group.
