Karate referees undergo courses in Tashkent meet

The Omani Karate Committee participated in the 16th Asian Karate Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from July 15 to 21.

During the championship, courses were also held for referees to progress to the next level in judging kata and kumite duels. Referees Ahmed bin Said al Zakawani (kata and kumite), Salim bin Darwish al Qutaiti (kumite), Yousuf bin Musallam al Siyabi (kata and kumite), Salim bin Sulaiman al Masroori (kumite), Hilal bin Mohammed al Abdali (kata and kumite) and Faris bin Nasser al Busaidi (kumite) attended the courses.

Brig Said Saleh al Azri, head of Omani Karate Committee, attended the Asian Karate Union meet also held during the 16th Asian Karate Championship, in which Maj Gen Nasser Alrzooqi was elected head of the union. He succeeds Chang Kong Hoi.

The championship saw the participation of 340 male and female karatekas from 33 member countries of Asian Karate Union.

The championship was of significance for the participating national teams eyeing qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
