Local Round-Up: Al Ameed claims top honours

Al Ameed players receive the winner’s trophy at the end of the second leg of the Mazda Power of 5 Football Cup

Al Ameed claimed the top honours in the second leg of the Mazda Power of 5 Football Cup that was played at the Seeb Sports Stadium recently. 

The double-leg tournament has so far witnessed 650 players compete over 128 matches.

The event is also serving as the selection trials for the national futsal team.

The Oman futsal team coach, Younis al Fahdi, picked three more players for the national team after the second leg.

The three selected are Mustafa al Roqashi, Ahmed al Balushi and Younis al Habsi.

There will be two more legs to be played over the rest of the domestic season.


Oman to take part in ISG in Baku


The newly-elected Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) board held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Khalid al Zubair, the OOC chairman recently.

The meeting agreed to send a strong delegation to take part in the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from May 12-22.

The board approved the participation of teams in nine disciplines - handball, volleyball, chess, athletics, equestrian, bowling, taekwondo, shooting and tennis.

The meeting also approved the formation of the OOC executive office under the chairmanship of Zubair. The members are Taha al Kishry, Khalid al Aadi and Mohsin al Masroori.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Saif al Hosni, the OOC vice-chairman, Kishry, the OOC secretary-general, Khalid al Aadi, the OOC treasurer, Sheikh Badr al Rawas, Fareed al Zadjali, Mohsin al Masroori and Saada al Ismaili, all members.
