Maqsood to lead Oman at WCL Division 2 event
A fit-again Zeeshan Maqsood has been named captain of Oman team for the forthcoming ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division Two in Namibia from April 20.
Besides Oman and hosts Namibia, the other four nations in fray are Canada, US, Papua New Guinea, and Hong Kong.
Allrounder Maqsood had missed the recent Quadrangular T20I Series and the three-match one-day series against Scotland due to injury.
The Namibia tournament assumes significance as the top-four finishers in the six-nation event will gain one-day international (ODI) status.
Oman head coach Duleep Mendis of Sri Lanka said, “Qualifying for the ODI status will be among our goals in Namibia.
“The team, with majority of allrounders, has been picked keeping in view the kind of teams we are going to face in Namibia. Also the hosting of the
Quadrangular Series followed by one-day series against Scotland helped us a lot in selection of our team for the WCL Two.”
Prior to Namibia tournament, Oman will be travelling to South Africa for a pre-tour training camp in Pretoria.
