Oman finishes sixth in indoor Asia Cup hockey

Oman finished sixth in the men's Indoor Asia Cup Hockey Championship, which concluded at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar on Friday. Oman lost its fifth place playoff match to Malaysia 5-7 on Friday, a day after it earned the only win of the tournament.

Playing in the playoff match for fifth to eighth places, Oman beat Thailand 5-3 to set up a match against Malaysia. Oman drew its opening match against the hosts Qatar 4-4 before being trounced by Malaysia (2-9) and Iran (3-10).

Six-time champion Iran maintained its stranglehold on the title for yet another year, defeating Kazakhstan 10-1 in the final. Iran along with Kazakhstan will compete at the next year’s World Cup in Germany. Qatar had to be content with a third-place finish, beating Uzbekistan 5-3 in the play-off.
