Oman to take part in nine sports at Asian Games
Oman teams will take part in nine sports at the 2018 Asian Games, which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia from August 18-September 2.
The official delegation for the Games and the decision to take part in the nine events was approved by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) executive office on Sunday.
The meeting was chaired by Khalid al Zubair, the OOC chairman.
The nine sports that Oman will take part are athletics, swimming, shooting, football, beach volleyball, tennis, sailing, hockey and weightlifting.
The national hockey team qualified to take part in the Games after winning the Asian Games Qualifier in Muscat in March.
The meeting also approved the list of arbitrators for the Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee.
The meeting also discussed the reports submitted by Omani participants after attending the Regional Forum of National Olympic Committees for Central and West Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and chef-de-mission seminar of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in Argentina
Kazim al Balushi, Oman’s delegation manager for the Asian Games in Indonesia, and Fatma al Harthy, head of coordination and follow-up section, represented the OOC in the Bishkek forum while Ahmed al Balushi took part in the three-day seminar in
Argentina. The Youth Olympic Games will be held in Buenos Aires from October 1-12.
OOC’s Adwanifor Greece meet
OOC has nominated Hisham al Adwani to take part in the 14th Joint International Course for presidents and directors of national Olympic academies to be held from at the International Olympic Academy in Athens, Greece.
Adwani will present a general perspective of the Oman Olympic Academy at the meeting, which began on Sunday.
