Omantel League: Al Suwaiq makes it five out of five

Star striker Abdulaziz al Miqbali celebrated his call-up to the national team with a goal as leader Al Suwaiq continued its winning streak with a dominating 3-0 win  over Al Nasr in the Omantel League at the Sohar Sports Complex on Friday.

Bassi's brace and Miqbali's goal made it five out of five in the league for Suwaiq. The victory increased the margin at the top to five points over  Al Nasr.

Also on Friday, it was a historic maiden win for debutant Al Mudhaibi as it edged past Muscat by a solitary goal at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex to open its account in the league.

Aahad al Hudaifi slammed in the winner with five minutes to go to spark celebrations for the club that is playing in the top-flight for the first time.

Al Shabab's narrow 1-0 win over Al Nahda at the Buraimi Sports Complex helped it remain at third place, a point above defending champion Dhofar.Salalah powerhouse and hosts Dhofar emerged a 3-2 winner in a thrilling and hard-fought match against Fanja at the Al Sa’ada Sports Complex.

The defeat pushed nine-time winner Fanja among the bottom-three teams.

In another game, Mirbat drew with Saham 2-2 at the same venue in Salalah despite down to ten men in the 33rd minute when Nasser Suleiman was sent off. Mohammed al Ghassani struck a double for Mirbat as it rallied from 1-2 to share the spoils.

Elsewhere, Al Salam and Oman played a drab goalless draw at the Sohar Sports Complex while hosts Al Arouba was a comfortable 2-0 winner over Sohar at the Sur Sports Complex.

The next round of action will be on October 14 as the national team's camp began on Saturday for the international friendly against Jordan in Dubai on October 4 followed by the 2019 Asian Cup qualifier against hosts Maldives on October 10.
