Shonal’s winning streak continues
Shonal Kunimal, the seven year old Muscat-based go-karting racer, continued his excellent start to the season with yet another title, this time at the UAE Rotax Max Challenge round three, at the Al Forsan racetrack in Abu Dhabi, UAE, recently.
Having decided to compete in three series this season – Rotax Max Challenge Series, IAME X30 Series and the Dubai Bambino Cup, powered by IAME X30 Series – Shonal has now achieved wins in six out of the seven races so far held across the three series.
Competing in the Bambino (5-8 years old) class, Shonal claimed three of the four time-trial held to garner a maximum of 77 points from the 80 available.
He was followed by another Muscat-based Omani youngster Adam Awan, who collected 74 points for a second-place finish.
Shonal won the first heat with a timing of 1m:20.875sec to get off to a perfect start. However, Leonidas Peruzzi came back in the second to take the honours as Shonal clocked 1m:20.910s.
The Indian School Ghubra student then had laps of 1m:20.231s and 1m:21.064s in the next two to claim victory.
Omani go-karting racer Adam Awan came second in third and fourth race with a time of 1m:20.720s and 1m:21.467s respectively. He was third in the first and second race with a time of 1m:22.377s and 1m:22.775s respectively.
